Leveraging the power of generative agents
to support adolescents facing social challenges

What is ESAIAS?

ESAIAS stands for Enhancing the social skills of adolescents with autism spectrum disorder through a gamified interactive artificial society of generative agents. This project contains a virtual school environment that is designed to transform social and emotional learning (SEL) for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Hong Kong's integrated education setting. We leverage generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) inside human-led role-playing scenarios to address the key limitations of conventional approaches, which require extensive therapist involvement, physical presence, and fixed scenarios. Instead, ESAIAS offers scalable, accessible, and adaptive training inside a virtual school, giving students the opportunity to complete tasks involving collaboration, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation by interacting with GenAI agents.

Our Solution

Our innovative solution incorporates an AI-enabled multiplatform approach that is ideally suited to tablets and optimised for standalone mobile devices. Behind the slick front-end we've designed an intuitive, easily customisable LLM editor that allows you to define your virtual cast of characters and their personalities without any prior coding knowledge. Our approach is research-based, co-created with certified therapists and tested on students.

Editor

Our custom-built scenario editor makes creating new role-playing situations easier than ever before. With just a few clicks in our node-based editor, you can personalise agent behaviour and their relationships, ideally suited to those without a background in agentic AI.
